Teaching Middle School Science through Inquiry! It Matters!

The Provincial Knowledge Exchange provides on opportunity for teachers to continue to collaborate in the development and sharing of resources. Through the PKE, the Ministry of Education supports classroom teachers in their own professional development through collaborative inquiry. During this session, teachers on the PKE project from Uxbridge Secondary School will discuss how their own professional learning through collaboration between elementary and secondary teachers have built professional dialogue that improves student learning in their own classrooms. This workshop will include resources for grade 7 Pure Substances and Mixtures strand. Hands on Inquiry based activities will be explored!

 

Biography

Anna Farquhar: I have been an elementary school teacher for the past 23 years. 10 of these years were spent as a Teacher Librarian and the rest have been in the classroom teaching Junior and Intermediate Science.

Lisa Lim-Cole has been teaching physics since September 2000. She has recently accepted a position as the Science and Technology Program Facilitator for Durham District School Board. She obtained her physics degree from McGill University and completed her Bachelor of Education degree at Queen’s University. Lisa is also the Eastern Ontario Teacher Network Coordinator for The Perimeter Institute’s Outreach Program, which works to provide workshops for physics teachers. Lisa is a passionate science educator who is inspired by the people she works with and the students she encounters. Let's foster curiosity!
